ABOUT THE PEN:

This edition of the famous fountain pen is crowned with the innovative curved nib, which is hand-crafted in 18K solid gold and garnished with three delicate parallel lines; a symbol inspired by calligraphy movements. The curved nib is ground at an angle of approximately 45 degrees, which allows a variety of writing styles and line widths, depending on the angle and the orientation at which the writing instrument is held.

Montblanc Meisterstück 149 Calligraphy Curved Nib

type: Fountain pen (curved nib)

Year of acquisition: 25.1.2023

MY IMPRESSIONS:

Comparable to an architect nib, the curved nib writes a thinner line (width M) when moved vertically, and a wider line (width BB) when moved horizontally. A curved nib is suited for Chinese, Japanese and Korean calligraphy, for sketching and drawing designs, but also to add extra flair to regular handwriting. Allowing a form of self-expression and creativity, the art of calligraphy requires the versatility of a nib that allows for a variety of line widths, shapes and styles to enhance the beauty of handwriting.

For me personally, this fountain pen doesn’t suit me well, and I prefer a flexible nib. It feels more natural for me to create thicker lines with pressure rather than with an angle.
