The barrel and cap are crafted from precious black resin, complemented by gold or platinum-plated accents, which add a touch of sophistication to the pencil’s appearance. Engravings on the cap and barrel depict key elements from Hugo’s works, including the gothic architecture of Notre-Dame Cathedral and the symbolism of the chained book, representing the theme of freedom in “Les Misérables.”

The clip of the mechanical pencil is designed in the shape of a gothic arch, a nod to the architectural elements prominent in Hugo’s works.
